Save Time With The Schedule Next Button

Updated 9/27/2019

Ever wonder what all those buttons on the side of the Appointment Information dialog box are for? You've seen them, but have you ever used them?

The Schd. Next button is a great time-saving button you should work into your routines and start using.

Here's how it works. When a patient checks out, double-click on today's appointment in the Appointment Book to bring up the Appointment Information dialog box. Then click the Schd. Next button.

This opens a new appointment for the selected patient. Enter the reason(s) for their next appointment, then click the Pinboard button. This will move the appointment to the Pinboard and from there you can flip through the days in your schedule until you find one that works for the patient. Then simply drag the appointment from the Pinboard to the available time. Done!

Try it out, see what you think, and make it a time-saving habit!

Changing a Provider for Selected Procedures

Updated 9/27/2019

When an appointment is set complete from the Appointment Book, the procedures are assigned to the appointment provider. However, in some cases (like hygiene appointments), the procedures should be posted to multiple providers. You can quickly change the provider that is attached to procedures after they have been completed by following these steps:
  1. Open the Patient Chart and select the patient.
  2. In the Progress Notes panel, select the completed procedure(s) that should be posted to a different provider.

  3. Click the Change Provider for Selected Procedures button.

  4. Select the correct provider for the procedure(s) and click OK. The provider will be changed for all highlighted procedures.
By changing the procedure's assigned provider from the Chart, you can change multiple procedures at the same time, saving you time, and your patient records will more accurately reflect the patient's care.

Transaction Links in the Ledger

Updated 9/27/2019

From the Ledger, you can view every transaction linked to an insurance claim. For example, if you post a payment to an insurance claim, when you click Show Transactions Links for that claim, Dentrix selects the claim and the procedures, payments and adjustments (if any) associated with it in the Ledger transaction log.

To view the transaction links to an insurance claim:
  1. Select a claim from a patient's Ledger.
  2. Click the View menu and select Show Transaction Links.

Dentrix selects every transaction entry that is linked to the one you selected.  This can really help to make sense of a potentially confusing Ledger full of entries.

For more information read the Show Transaction Links blog post.

Insurance Menu Option Not Available

Updated 9/26/2019

"Why is the Insurance Menu option in the Ledger grayed out?"

This is a frequent question that causes users to call the Dentrix Customer Support team.  It's a great question, and here's the answer:

If the Insurance menu option is grayed out (see image below), it isn't available for use. Usually this means that the patient has not been assigned insurance in the Family File. Once you've added insurance information in the Family File, the Insurance menu option will become available for use.

If you have assigned insurance information in the Family File and the option is still gray, it probably means that you are viewing the All (with Running Balance) option in the Ledger. The Insurance menu option is only available when you are viewing the Ledger for a specific patient. Click the View menu item and then select a specific family member. Once you're viewing a specific patient, the Insurance menu option will become available for use.
